This Marbled Fondant Wedding Cake with Navy, Gold and Pink is a beautiful, modern, elegant design. With the marbled effect, you can easily incorporate any color into your cake and end up with a stunning cake that reflects your personality and style.
This cake is very special to me - and maybe my all time favorite wedding cake. Mostly, it's because I made the cake for my friend Susan.
I love her with of my heart. She's my cake bestie, my shoulder to cry on and a listening ear any time I need her day or night. I can count on her to always encourage me and lift me up when things are hard.
As a bonus, she's also my biggest helper with my business. She's my personal assistant and my right-hand here on Rose Bakes. I couldn't do everything I do without her.
So... to say I was nervous about doing this cake would be the understatement of the year. Thrilled and ecstatic and I'd have cried if she'd wanted someone else to do it, but also a nervous wreck...
Marbled Fondant Wedding Cake with Navy, Gold and Pink
First, Susan is also a cake decorator, so she knows the ins and outs of cake. And I never in a million years wanted to disappoint her on her special day. I wanted her cake to exceed all of her hopes and dreams.
Also, I'd never done marbled fondant before. And I had no clue how to get the minimal effect she wanted but still have it be a statement. I watched several video tutorials on the topic ahead of time and got a good idea, but marbled fondant has to have a light touch.
Too much kneading and you have fondant all one color. Not enough and you have gaudy, bold stripes of color that look more like a zebra than marbling (ask me how I know... ha!). Anyway... I did have to redo a couple of times, but honestly, when I backed up and looked at my finished cake, I was so, so pleased with it.
The last "hitch" in doing her cake was the venue was around 2 hours from my home. The only other time I delivered a wedding cake that far, the bottom tier collapsed about 20 minutes before we got there. You can read a few details about that at the bottom of this post. I certainly didn't want to repeat that!
And thank goodness - it all came together seamlessly. Let me give you a few details about the cake and putting it together.
To get an idea on marbling, I watched several videos, but the ones that stood out were this video tutorial on Craftsy and another one on a blog that I can't currently find a link for.
After covering all the tiers (the bottom was draped, the top two were paneled), I chilled them thoroughly for the long drive to the venue. Normally I wouldn't refrigerate a fondant covered cake, but I wanted them to be cold and firm to minimize the risk of bulging with all the bumps and movement of traveling.

When we got to the venue, I hand-painted on the gold veining. Susan's mom got this picture of me. I love it that my amazing husband is in the background. He's always by my side - waiting on me hand and foot and helping me in any and every way. I can't imagine doing life (or cake) without him 🙂

After it was all set up, the florist brought over some flowers for the cake and asked if I could put them on . Susan had also left the cake topper there for me to add. I'm not a florist and not confident at all in my flower arranging capabilities, but the florist had pictures of what Susan wanted so I jumped right in.
I absolutely fell in love with the navy, gold and pink combination and the added silver dollar eucalyptus sprigs were so fragrant and beautiful.
After the gold and flowers were added, the only thing left was to decorate the table. The florist added more greenery and the event coordinators added the candles. When the wedding was over, the bouquets were added and it was just stunning!
One more little side note. I also made cupcakes for the groom's table. He is an avid coffee lover so his table was all about coffee and cake:
I made yellow cake with pecans topped with rich chocolate buttercream and coffee cupcakes with extra creamy coffee buttercream. They were displayed on cake stands of different heights and there was also a coffee station on the table. It was so perfect!
I'll have to dedicate another post to that table with all the details!
The entire wedding was just stunning. I fell in love with the venue, the decor and everything about it. The best part though was that Susan glowed the whole day! She was smiling nonstop and so, so beautiful!
